Quick Tip Tuesday: DIY non-slip hangers

DIY non-slip hangers

I like all of my hangers to match. I’m sure you’re shocked at that statement. {Tee hee.} I don’t use anything fancy in my closet. In fact, my preference is white plastic hangers. Most of the hangers I use feature notches for hanging tank-style tops and whatnot. However, I have a few shirts that easily fall off the hangers. Today’s tip stems from something that happened over the weekend.

Let’s back up, shall we? A couple of weeks ago, I was searching with no success for a particular top I own that goes with a certain necklace. {See the trouble maker picture on the right.) I couldn’t find the shirt. Lo and behold, this weekend, I spied something crumpled up on the floor of my closet underneath all of my hanging clothes. It was the top I had been looking for.

As you can see, this shirt has a wide neckline — and it does not stay on the hanger. {And no, it never came with those annoying plastic straps that we all cut off, either.} So I came up with a quick, easy and cheap solution. Rather than spending $12 on a pack of velvet hangers, which wouldn’t match the rest of the hangers in my closet anyway, I decided to make my own non-slip hangers using the ones I already own. Here’s what I did:

Taking my hot glue gun, I made a zig-zag pattern with the glue on the top edges of each side of the hanger. Once the glue dries in a matter of seconds, it creates a solid, clear grip. Now I can hang the shirt and it doesn’t slip off the hanger. Easy!

And by the way, here’s an additional tip. If you haven’t already figured it out from my posts, there are two essential tools everyone who wants to be organized needs in their arsenal: a label maker and a hot glue gun. I use them almost daily!

I LOVE this idea! I was going to hot glue fun foam along the the tops of the hangers but this is faster!
