Out of my comfort zone

Welcome to my new adventure! I feel a bit of hesitation as I step out of my comfort zone into this crazy, very public blog world. There are so many good blogs out there. {Who am I to think I can do this?!} My degree is in journalism, so yes, I can write. However, it’s always been for or about someone else, not about me or my passions.

great things never came from comfort zones

Stepping out of my comfort zone and finally doing this blog thing, which I’ve thought about for a couple years, is both daunting and exciting. It totally reminds me of a moment a few years ago, when my husband surprised me with the best — yet scariest — birthday present ever: a jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I love the thrill of a steep roller coaster, but something about free-falling from 13,000 feet…well, let’s just say it was both daunting and exhilarating at the same time. I’m proud to say I did it, I loved it — and I would do it again if any of you want to go!

what if I fail

I guess you could say I’ve never been afraid of a challenge. So, I’ll take what I do best: writing, organization and design and make life real here in this place called Sweet Tea Street. Doesn’t that sound like a great place to live?

My intent is not just to give you Pinterest-worthy photos and my opinions, but real ideas you can use. In the midst of all this, I will sprinkle some inspiring real-life profiles of people to whom you can relate, learn from, or be encouraged. I believe that each one of us is living a wonderful story (not only do we have a story but we are a story), and I love telling stories. My favorite articles to write have always been personal profiles — learning what makes a person tick. So, I’m exited to share some inspiring stories with you. I also intend to give you everyday ideas on organization. I think I was born with a freakishly, weird gene that requires me to have order in all areas of my life. (Some day I’ll tell you the story about my bedroom as a little girl.) And, for fun, one regular feature I’ll be sharing will be my {sweet} Design Challenge, where I take your design dilemmas and surprise you with a before and after transformation via Photoshop. I’m ready to go…let’s jump!

{sweet} Design Challenge

First up: My friend Kelly wanted a little design help in her kitchen. Her initial goal is to change her flooring. She also has a lot of oak — oak cabinets, oak trim and an oak ceiling. I’m excited to share my results! (Use the arrows to move the slider between the before and after photos.)

Adding a small island, tile backsplash and dark plank flooring, painting the cabinets white, changing the wall color, prettying it up with some cool lights and a window seat and voila! A kitchen transformation! Pretty cool, right? Kelly and her husband, Aaron, were excited too!

So, with that, if there was one room in your home you could change, what would it be? Comment below or send me a photo at julee@sweetteastreet.com. I might just choose you for my next {sweet} Design Challenge. And thanks for visiting me at Sweet Tea Street. You’re welcome back anytime!

    I love it Julee!

You realize, of course, that with a name like this you’re going to be moving to the South soon?

I love the name, love the idea, and can’t wait to see how this shapes our house over the next few years.

Ha Bret! After partaking of a few restaurants in TN, when I would ask the waitress, “Do you have sweet tea?” your wife kindly reminded me that everyone has sweet tea there! I loved it! And thanks for the kind words about the blog… 🙂
